In 2015, ACPA-College Student Educators International and NASPA-Student Affairs Administrators collaborated on a revision of the Professional Competencies for the field of Student Affairs. These competencies are broken down into ten different categories that address different skills and knowledge student affairs professionals must hold to succeed at their colleges and universities. Each competency area is then further broken down into skill levels: Foundational, Intermediate, and Advanced. The ten different categories are as follows:
